Micky Mellon was full of praise for the “six foot five” Manny Monthe after he made his debut at centre-half as Tranmere beat Maidstone 3 – 2.
The 23-year-old was signed on loan until the end of the season from Forest Green following the season ending injury to Evan Gumbs who broke his leg in training.
The gaffer was more than pleased with what he saw from the big man’s first outing in a Tranmere shirt.
“He’s a handful, he’s done this before, and he’s a lovely, lovely lad. He’s fiercely competitive, it’s his first game, a six foot five guy on 4G must be a challenge.
“I must admit, I’m not that size myself but I can see it must be a challenge but he certainly acquitted himself really well.
“We’ve seen the qualities that he has, we’re pleased to have him here obviously for the reasons everybody knows with the injuries and big Steve can’t play on 4G.
“So we’re really pleased the big man has come in and he’ll be a valuble addition with his experience to the group,” said Mellon.
Steve McNulty and Richie Sutton are the preferred partnership at the back for Tranmere, but having a player with promotion experience as back-up will be huge going into the play-off run in.
