By Joel Lampkin

Tranmere Rovers’ new futsal signing Ignacio De Leon hails fellow South American Falcao as the best player in the sport.

The 35-year-old recently debuted for The Super Whites against Salisbury and donated a signed shirt from the legendary star to raise funds for the club.

‘Nacho’ recalls the time he featured on the same pitch as the man who was selected as the best player in the world on four occasions.

He said: “I played two times, first I played in USA, in an exhibition match and then I play[ed] last year but it was only soccer sevens with the National team and it was an exhibition also and he played with us.”

After arriving in the United Kingdom, De Leon offered his own personally signed shirt from his former teammate in an effort to raise funds to cover the increasing cost of running the club.

The debate regarding who is the greatest futsal player of all time continues to divide opinion, but Nacho has no doubts about his selection, with his selection a man he has been up close and personal with.

He declared: “He is the best player [of all time], better than Ricardinho si si.”

With a career spanning over 15-years, the veteran has featured not only at club level but for his country too, and his love for the sport has taken him on a global journey.

He said: “I start playing at 20-years-old, I moved to Montevideo because I moved from a small town called Dolores where futsal was not very popular.

“I started playing it in the third division in Uruguay for a team called Fenix, then I moved to another team, then I was in the National team.”

As he settles into a new career chapter at Prenton Park he feels that his current location is ideal as his love for game continues to grow.

He continued: “I live near Prenton Park so I can train every day and use the gym, for me it is a dream.

“Now it is about fifteen years playing futsal and I love it!”
