Larnell Cole: Worthy of his new contract?

By Josh Roberts

Today it was announced that Larnell Cole’s stay at Tranmere has been extended till the end of the season which you can read about here.

A couple of weeks ago, a piece was published on here questioning whether or not Cole should have been given a new contract.

The question was also posed to you the fans with the results of the poll coming out relatively mixed.

51% of the fans who voted wanted to see Cole given a new deal so have gotten their wish with today’s news.

The other 49% would rather have seen him moved on or were unsure if he was worthy of a new deal at the club.

So is Larnell Cole worth of his new deal?

For starters there is serious quality coming back into the squad, just today James Wallace and Ben Tollitt played in a behind closed doors friendly against Bury to build up their fitness on return to action.

Cole, once he is back to full fitness, he will have a lot of competition in front of him, not just to get into the starting XI, but the match day squad too.

He hasn’t shown the quality he undoubtedly possesses in a Tranmere shirt yet but his versatility to play both out wide and as a more central option should hopefully benefit Rovers in their promotion push.

He has the pace, he has the tricks, and he’s scored goals. He just needs to take his chance when it is given to him by Micky Mellon.

A deal to the end of the season benefits both parties though in this situation. Tranmere get a player who should be willing to impress and should he do so they’ll have a good player on their hands.

If Cole’s performances are less than impressive, then Tranmere only have him on the books till the end of the season when they can cut ties with him.
